Clinical Trials

Dear Patients,

We’re happy to announce that as partners with Privia Health, we offer our patients access to Privia’s Clinical Research Program. Together, we work with a research group called Javara to conduct clinical trials in the Annapolis area. The direct link can be found here.

What is clinical research?

Clinical research is a branch of healthcare science that determines the safety and effectiveness of medications, devices, diagnostic products and treatment regimens intended for human use. These may be used for prevention, treatment, diagnosis or for relieving symptoms of a disease. Clinical Research helps doctors and scientists learn about new medications and treatments that can help you and other people in the future.

Who is Javara?

Javara is our trusted partner in Clinical Research. Javara team members integrate into participating Privia practices to support providers who lead clinical research trials. The Javara team works very closely with us and our providers to offer clinical trial access to all patients who may benefit. For more information visit Privia Medical Group – Mid Atlantic.

What trials are we currently participating in?

The following trials are currently enrolling patients in the Annapolis Research Hub in the trials. You can access more information and enroll here: https://javararesearch.com/patients/clinical-trials/.

 Contacting You

If you are a potential candidate, you may receive a call on behalf of our practice about participating in a local trial. We will know if you choose to participate in a local trial. Protecting your personal health information is our top priority. As such, if you would like to opt-out, you may do so at any time. We encourage you to talk with your provider if you have questions about a clinical trial.

Why is this important?

Clinical trials drive medical advances, but your participation is always voluntary. Participating in clinical trials can help you:

  • Gain access to new treatments and care not available to the public
  • Obtain medications that you take for little or no cost to you
  • Provide information about your health conditions
  • Help others by contributing to research

Group Nutrition Visits

What are Group Visits?

Group visits are a way for patients and providers to connect in ways beyond the typical office visit. They consist of a group education session on a specific health topic, along with a one-on-one evaluation with your provider. During these sessions, you will have time to learn more about how to manage common health issues, discuss directly with our registered dietician about how to use food as medicine, as well as connect with other individuals to share and inspire new healthy goals together.

Typically a group will consist of 5-10 individuals, with the session lead by a clinical provider and our registered dietician.

Our goal is to provide an educational experience, followed by an open discussion, aimed at making positive lifestyle changes. You will be given supportive material each week, along with attainable goals to help you see meaningful change right away.

Is this covered by insurance?

Group visits are billed to your health insurance as a primary care visit. Patients should expect to be responsible for any associated co-pay, co-insurance or deductibles.

How do you ensure privacy?

Respecting privacy and confidentiality is extremely important to us. Group discussions are confidential and all participants will be asked to sign a confidentiality consent agreement prior to participation. Telemedicine sessions are conducted via a secure and HIPPA-compliant platform and sessions are closed meaning participants must be approved by the host to enter. Group visits are never recorded for public, private or internal use.

What Group Visit series are available?

Food as Medicine: Eating Healthy for Life
Lead by: Mollie Sourwine, MS, MD and Sara Adelman, CRNP
This series is aimed to help you make healthier food choices with the goal of reducing your risk of cardiovascular disease. We dive into how to interpret and analyze food labels, learn how to identify hidden sugar and analyze good vs bad fat. You will be given challenges after each session and supportive materials to help you implement what you learn right away!

Do I Need to Register for all Appointments in a Series?

Yes! The content presented each week builds into what you learned in previous sessions. Goals are set each session to help you implement key lifestyle changes as we progress through the series. In addition, we limit attendance for each series so we expect individuals to attend all sessions in a series.

Are there any available sessions?

You can access our public calendar via your web browser here or see the monthly view below!

How Do I Register?

Simply call our office at (410) 989-8833 to speak with our front desk staff to get registered for a series. We do not support online registration for group visits at this time.
